In the face of challenges and transition we will continue to look to Him, our Source and our Strength.

Sunday School classes are now scheduled from 8:15 – 9:15 a.m. This presents a challenge as the number of youth/children in attendance has dwindled significantly; however the Discipleship Institute, established to foster spiritual growth and maturity of UBC adults continues to grow. The Sunday School class is taught by Deacon Patricia Miller; the adult membership class is presided over by Deacon Victor Hill, the children/youth membership class is presided over by Deaconess Gwendolyn Edwards, and the Discipleship class is lead by Reverend Diane Wilson, Minister Michele Nelson and Deaconess Wanda Hill.

Vacation Bible School was held from June 22 – 26. Our theme this year was “The Jesus Chronicles: A Life Changing Encounter”. Deacon-In-Training Carolyn Perkins again provided wonderful leadership. We had seven classes ranging from pre-kindergarten to adult,. We averaged 79 students for the week, with the highest attendance on Thursday at 85 students. Also in attendance, were members from local churches, which included Grace Evangelical, United Methodist, New Beginnings Church, New Deliverance Outreach Ministries, and St. John’s Episcopal Church.

As congregational needs grew, two ministries were established in 2009: The Family Life Ministry and the Young Adult Ministry

The Young Adult Ministry (Y.A.M.), was established to foster and maintain the young adult presence within the church. Monique Carter currently heads the ministry. During 2009, the ministry held two “Real Talk” sessions, which provided an open forum for the members to discuss relevant topics comfortably, and confidently; members also participated in various social events.

2009 Activities include the following:
-Kingdom Investment Conference
-Women’s Ministry Education Seminar
-State Missionary Conference participation
-Steppers and Junior/Intermediate Ushers’ anniversaries
-National Baptist Congress of Christian Education participation, Detroit MI
-Women’s Ministry Weekend Retreat – September
-Youth Outing-Whitney Young Youth Classic
-Octoberfest
-Youth Thanksgiving Mission Outreach Program

I would personally like to thank each of your for your continued support and commitment to the work of the Lord in this ministry.

Respectfully Submitted,

Tiffani Oliver-McKenzie, Chair

Deacon Ministry

We count it a joy to be able to support our Pastors and the entire Union Family. Johnny Bush as the facilitator.
" Provided communion to the sick and shut-in
" Made countless visits to members and their families in the hospitals, convalescent, and nursing homes.
" Worked arduously with the Trustees to maintain and improve membership information.
" Supported the Youth Ministry in every way possible, knowing our youth are our future.
" In conjunction with the Deaconess Ministry, hosted a special service for our long-term sick and shut-in members.
" Were heavily involved in most ministries of the Church
" Worked to support the Pastors in the development of Strategic Plans and Initiatives
" Developed the Capital Campaign, Higher Ground
" With prayer and leadership from our Pastor, Carolyn Perkins was ordained as a Deacon.

Our prayers for more servant leaders have been answered, as our two Deacons-In- Training ,Alexander Horner and Reginald Prudhomme, are being trained and exercised.

For the balance of 2010, we believe that He wants us to focus our efforts on the spiritual needs of the congregation and those who are lost.

We thank all of the other ministries and the congregation for their support and cooperation during this challenging year; we look forward to His continued blessings.

To God be the glory.

On behalf of all Deacons,

William S. Perry, Assistant Pastor Reverend Leroy Parker, the Clergy, Deacon Ministry, and all of our Ministries and Members, we are pleased to submit this report for the 2009 calendar year on behalf of the Trustees of Union Baptist Church

We are thankful to the guidance received from the Pastor, Assistant Pastor, Deacon Callion, Trustees Emeritus Joseph Baskin and Edmond Davis and many others whose experience in our church operations and support to the Trustee Ministry have been very valuable. This past year has witnessed the further development of our Pastor’s vision of an ever growing church, and the continued evolution of our Programs and Ministries. As well, we continue to serve as a community resource. As we look ahead to 2010 we will need to place increased emphasis on acting on our UBC vision, achieving membership growth, and transforming applicable church programs, operations, and general management.

We can report to you that our church and its operations are in good order. This past year had more than the normal set of challenges. As we all know, the state of the economy became very difficult in multiple ways including investment turmoil, companies in trouble and jobs lost. Yet by the Grace of God UBC was able to manage through the year and we were blessed. As you will note in our financial reports, we received less, expended less, solved for a number of financial concerns as was necessary, and have had to make the necessary and important choices and changes for 2010 in our budgets. We will reevaluate at mid-year should further changes be necessary.

We highlight the following accomplishments for 2009:
High Utilization of our Church Facilities for Programs, Ministries, and Member Use and Special Events
High Utilization of our sound and video equipment and capabilities
Repairs and Improvements to the UBC Physical Facility, more than in certain years
Continued Maintenance and Cleaning of facilities, kitchen, carpets, and high use areas
Improvements to the Boiler facilities and to the thermostat operation of the AC & Heating
Further Elimination of Water Leaks where applicable
Readiness of the Pepperidge Rental Property for new tenants
Effective Use of Budgeted Expenses although income was less than planned

With your continued support our goals for 2010:
Required Maintenance and Capital Improvements
Further drainage remediation
Increased stewardship in support of church operations, facility improvements, and debt reduction

These are but a few of the many areas in which we will move during 2010.

Once again we recognize that we were not alone in the effort of “Kingdom Building” and we recognize others on the frontline making it all work. So a special thank you to our office and custodial staff, and those you do not see…, Bookkeeper, Adrienne Roberson, Finance Chair, Evangelean Wright, and Vice-Chair, Janice Major, the entire team of finance members; and to member volunteers, we say thank you for all you do.

We acknowledge and offer our thanks to all of the Trustees for their service and in particular to those that completed a term this past year. It is with great appreciation that we acknowledge the commitment and service of Trustees Rosa Davis-Gallaher, Eddie Messenger, Carolyn Miller, and Annie Summerville-McAllister who have been such wonderful contributors to the Trustee Ministry. Please accept our heartfelt thanks for all that you have done.

We look forward to continued service to the Union Baptist Church Family and further progress of our Church, its spiritual mission and vision, and community support.

Gregg DeMar - Chair
Sandra Greer - Vice-Chair
Darryl Branch - Treasurer

Jesse Baker II
Bruce Hubbard
Annie Summerville-McAllister
Rosa Davis-Gallaher
Carolyn Miller
David Tapscott
Dennis Hope
Freddy Smith-Morton
Regina Winters

Assimilation Ministry

"Opening the Front Door - Closing the Back Door"

DISCIPLESHIP

EVANGELISM

Logo Adopted from Purpose Driven Life Rick Warren

Officers

Minister Randall Woodson
Deacon Omri Lavine
Minister George Daniels
Sister Fonda Brown
Deacon Herbert Davis, Jr.
Sister Adrienne Roberson

Description

The Assimilation Ministry was started by Dr. Robert W. Perry in April of 2007 in an attempt to help new members feel at home at Union Baptist Church by incorporating them into the life, the emotion and the ministry of this congregation.

Mission

The mission of the Assimilation Ministry of the Union Baptist Church, with commitment to the Pastor's Vision for the church, and in adherence to the Mission of Union Baptist Church, is to help new members move from simply attending, to developing programs, to encourage those desiring to be members at UBC family to be plugged in, build relationships, and quickly become an integral and active part of the body.

New Member Assimilator

The new member assimilator is responsible for welcoming new members, providing information, helping them feel at home and bonding them to church through relationship.

Biblical Foundation

Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. And fear came upon every soul: and many wonder and signs were done by the apostles. And all that believed were together, and had all things common; and sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart. Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved. Acts 2:41-47

Having then gifts differing according to grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; or ministry, let us wait on our ministering; or he that teacheth on teaching; or he that exhorteth, on exhortation, he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that showeth mercy with cheerfulness. However, with our blessing we still had sadness within the Sanctuary Choir. Our heavenly Father called home two of His daughters: Sisters Mary Evans and Rebecca Powell. Though they were absent from the choir due to illness, they were certainly a blessing with their many talents and they are truly missed.

The Sanctuary Choir loves the Lord and considers it an honor and privilege to be able to preach the mighty powerful Word of God in song. We thank Him for blessing us with the melodious voices that He has given to each of us in the choir. We thank Him for the dedicated director, Brother Louis Gibson. We pray for continued strength, and we ask God to send more dedicated/melodious voices to this ministry!!
2010 Officers:
President.......Sister Kimberly White-Nieves
Financial.......Secretary Sister Gloriaetta Summons
Vice President..Sister Mildred Hudson
Assistant Secretary..Trustee Rosa Davis-Gallaher
Secretary.......Sister Blanche Sumpter Chaplain
Deaconess.......Barbara Hemphill

Respectfully submitted,
Sister Mary E. Under the direction of Elder Colon Haywood, Jr., the Choir has continued to expand its musical repertoire by incorporating contemporary music with traditional gospel while keeping as a top priority praising the Lord. During 2009, the choir assisted with songs of worship during each 1st, 2nd and 4th Sunday worship service.

As in past years, the high points of the year have been the celebration of our Anniversary Concert 2009 marked 36 years Theme: GOD Is My Shield , Scripture: Psalm 3:1-6. Mother s Day was celebrated with Mother s Day Rose pins provided by the UBC Gospel Choir. We thought it was a beautiful sight to see all Mothers with the Mother s Day Rose near their hearts and throughout the year. As a result of the Choir s dedication to the LORD and willingness to serve, the above events were successful and blessed the Union Baptist Church Family and Community.

Additionally, the UBC Gospel Choir was favored with numerous engagements; some of which Reverend Perry delivered the Word and others were simply to lift up the Lord in song. A few of these worship experiences included: Come As You Are Community of Faith (CCOF) 3rd Anniversary, New Hope Baptist Church, Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church 1st Combined Union Baptist Church and Faith Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church Deacon and Deaconess Day.

During 2009, active membership totaled approximately 40 members. The UBC Choir continued to embrace the mission of giving the Lord our best. We operate with the following principle: If a ministry for the Lord is worth our service, it is also worthy of our very best effort using our God-given talent. May our lives be dedicated so that God alone will receive the honor and glory . During 2010, we will align with the Church s theme of S.E.T. T.I.M.E. as we strive to bring souls to Christ through our ministry of singing songs of praise; & whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God....
